Flat-Fee Basis

Location of a missing heir may be billed on a flat-fee basis, which would be due only if we provide current contact information or a date and place of death (if the subject is found to be deceased).  Should we fail to account for the missing heir, we will provide a report at no cost.

Hourly Rate

Services are routinely rendered on an hourly basis. Pursuant to our review of available preliminary information we recommend our clients authorize a specific number of hours initially. If we have not completed the assignment at that point, we provide an interim report and await the client’s authorization to proceed with further research for a specified number of additional hours. A final report is prepared upon completion of the assignment (if appropriate, genealogical charts and documentary evidence accompany our report).

Percentage-Based Contingency

For those cases where missing or unknown heirs are entitled to assets, a percentage-basis contingent fee search may be conducted. Clients often prefer a contingent fee for those cases where heirs are previously known and claiming since those claimant heirs' shares are not reduced as a result of our fee for locating other heirs (if any). In this manner, only those heirs who benefit financially as a result of our efforts are responsible for our fee.

In addition to simplifying matters for our clients, contingent fees have in many cases proven to be most cost-effective for overseas assignments where it may be very time-consuming to access records, and in part since a contingent basis avoids the need to review translated timesheets and expense statements. Also, our overseas correspondents must satisfactorily conclude the assignment or they are not paid…our search continues until we have exhausted all reasonable means for determining all heirs/beneficiaries, if any. In many cases, we are able to prove there are no surviving heirs (or additional heirs). We routinely conduct successful contingent searches in virtually every country around the world.
